Marvel Rivals’ developers have unveiled their roadmap to introduce new heroes monthly and shorten season lengths. Discover more details about post-Season 2 updates, including upcoming characters and cosmetic skins.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In an effort to keep the game "as fresh as its launch," NetEase has announced a shift from releasing two heroes per season to adding new playable characters every month. Marvel Rivals’ Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong shared this update during Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, alongside other seasonal adjustments.
The development team confirmed that each season will now last two months instead of the original three-month schedule. With shorter seasons, new heroes will be introduced monthly. Guangguang explained, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang noted, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also exploring new gameplay modes to enhance engagement, which may arrive at a later date. Once implemented, players could see up to 12 new heroes added annually.
While balancing these frequent additions presents a challenge, Guangguang outlined the strategy in a March 14 interview with PC Gamer. He highlighted the reliance on key metrics—such as pick rates, win rates, stats, and ability performance—stating, "This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
The Dev Vision event showcased the Season 2 Hellfire Gala, inviting Marvel Heroes to Krakoa, the mutant haven, under the guidance of Emma Frost. As an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and diamond-transmutation abilities, Emma Frost will join the roster as a Vanguard class hero.
The island celebration features lavish attire, with trailers previewing new skins for Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, Black Panther, and others in formal wear. The event is inspired by Marvel’s Hellfire Club, an elite social group that influences global events.
Following Emma Frost's release, Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. In the Hellfire Gala trailer, a swarm of Ultron drones interrupts the party, signaling the start of the Age of Ultron. Specific details about Ultron remain under wraps for now.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals announced on April 4 via Twitter (X) that new cosmetic bundles for Thor and Hawkeye are live. Thor’s "Lord of Asgard" skin draws inspiration from his comic book revival by Odin, while Hawkeye’s "Ronin" outfit reflects his time as a vigilante samurai.
The Thor Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP screen, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle features the Ronin skin, matching spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP screen, and Hone to Perfection emote.
These updates highlight NetEase’s commitment to supporting Marvel Rivals for a decade and beyond. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For more news, read our latest article below!
