MultiVersus, the 2024 free-to-play crossover fighting game, is set to shut down permanently.
Player First Games revealed back in January that MultiVersus Season 5 would be its final season, with the game scheduled to go offline for good at 5pm PDT (12 noon EDT) on May 30, 2025. The decision marked a significant setback for Warner Bros. Discovery. During a November 2024 financial call, the company acknowledged that MultiVersus underperformed significantly, leading to a $100 million writedown for its games division—bringing the total loss to $300 million following the poorly received launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League earlier that year.
Just one month after this announcement, Warner Bros. confirmed it was canceling its planned Wonder Woman game and closing three studios: Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and Player First Games, the developer behind MultiVersus.
In a Reddit thread titled “Tomorrow Multiversus shuts down, what are the final things you have to say about the game,” players gathered to share their thoughts and memories from the game’s lifecycle.“Multiversus was a dream. It was a platform fighter built around fast-paced offense and dynamic 2v2 gameplay that emphasized team synergy,” one player reflected. “Beyond just gameplay, the casting was fantastic. So many characters were voiced by their original actors—from the late Kevin Conroy as Batman to Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Kate Micucci as Velma, John DiMaggio as Jake, and Eric Bauza as Bugs and Marvin. The interactions between fighters during and after matches really brought the roster to life.
“Some roster choices and move selections were questionable—Banana Guard and Ultra Instinct Shaggy come to mind—but most of the movesets were undeniably creative. There won’t be another game quite like MultiVersus.”

Another fan wrote, “Nothing will beat that feeling from playing the beta back in 2022. I was completely hooked on the fast-paced nature of the game. I remember getting sick and spending days just immersed in MultiVersus. I’ll miss it dearly, and I can only hope it gets revived someday—maybe in a sequel or reimagined format.”
“This game will always hold a special place in my heart, right next to PlayStation All-Stars,” lamented a longtime player. Another added, “Tom and Jerry was one of the most unique and fun fighters I’ve ever played—it reignited my love for the genre.”

While some fans remain hopeful, most accept that MultiVersus is truly gone, especially considering how complex the IP licensing was. Still, a few are determined to preserve its legacy once the servers close.
Although MultiVersus may not have become a staple at local multiplayer gatherings, its engaging team-based mechanics made it a standout online platform fighter. As we noted in IGN's MultiVersus review, the game earned an impressive 8/10 for its fresh take on the genre and deep roster variety.
