Good news for fans of the iconic children's show, Sesame Street, which has been delighting audiences since 1969. The beloved series is set to continue its journey on new platforms after HBO and Max decided not to renew their deal at the end of 2024. Now, Sesame Street will be available for streaming on both Netflix and PBS, ensuring its continued reach and impact.
Starting with the upcoming episodes, fans worldwide can watch new Sesame Street content on Netflix, along with access to the show's extensive library of past episodes. Additionally, new episodes will premiere on the same day on PBS stations and PBS Kids in the US, maintaining the show's long-standing relationship with public television. This exciting development was announced by Sesame Street through their social media channels on May 19, 2025.

In their announcement, Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind the series, highlighted the unique public-private partnership with Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This collaboration aims to help children around the world grow smarter, stronger, and kinder through the magic of Sesame Street.
For Season 56, viewers can expect some structural changes to the show. Each episode will feature an 11-minute story segment, drawing inspiration from character-driven shows like Bluey. However, fans will still enjoy classic segments such as Elmo's World and Cookie Monster's Foodie Truck, blending the new with the cherished.
Sesame Street first aired in November 1969 and joined the PBS network in the 1970s, quickly becoming a cultural landmark. In 2015, HBO and Max entered a partnership with the show, investing $35 million for new episodes. This collaboration ended in late 2024 as HBO and Max shifted their focus away from children's programming. Nonetheless, the Sesame Street library will remain accessible on HBO and Max until 2027, albeit without the production of new content.
In an interesting twist, Netflix's expansion into gaming will allow them to develop video games based on Sesame Street and its spinoff, Sesame Street Mecha Builders, further enhancing the show's interactive experience for young audiences.
