DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced that Season 2 of Peacemaker will premiere on Max on August 21, accompanied by a brief teaser clip. In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere ranks among "one of my favorite things ever." The teaser features John Cena's character in action, notably smirking at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. A voiceover declares Peacemaker as "a superhero now."

The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows the July 11 debut of Superman, which marks the first major film in Gunn's revamped DC Universe (DCU). This season will be the third installment in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos series and the upcoming Superman movie.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's new cinematic universe aims to distance itself from the critically criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will persist into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing into the new DCU with its second.
Gunn has mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.Additionally, Gunn has clarified that the events of Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after those of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
