PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Ends After 3 Years

Authore: JulianUpdate:May 23,2025

Sony has announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, less than three years after its launch. As of today, the program is closed to new members, and those who cancel their membership will find their reward points permanently deleted, with no option to rejoin.

Current members can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026, to redeem any remaining balance.

PlayDespite the program's end, Sony has confirmed that PlayStation Stars' Digital Collectibles, such as the 3D digital model of a Jim Ryan bobblehead, will remain accessible for the foreseeable future.

Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, stated on the PlayStation blog, "Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."

Sony has not announced a replacement for PlayStation Stars, and the specific insights gained from the program remain undisclosed.

The program was designed to compete with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, though over time, both schemes have seen adjustments that made them less lucrative.

PlayStation Stars faced a month-long service outage last summer, and in October, Sony introduced changes including reducing the points expiration period from 24 to 12 months and excluding PlayStation Plus membership from points-eligible purchases. Now, the entire program is being phased out.
