PoE2: Future Updates to Shift Focus from New Classes

If you're an avid player of *Path of Exile 2*, you might be curious about the future updates and what to expect from the game. Recently, the game director Jonathan Rogers shared insights during a Q&A session, shedding light on the development focus moving forward. One key takeaway is that new classes will not be the primary feature in upcoming patches. Instead, the focus will shift to other aspects of the game, aiming for more predictable and timely updates.

Expect More Ascendancies, Not New Classes

Rogers explained that the unpredictability of developing new classes led to extended development cycles, which ultimately delayed patches. He stated, I would like it if every release would have a class, but I would say that we actually learned something during the production of this cycle, which is that it was a mistake to have a class as a wedge for the development of your expansion. The focus on including the Huntress in the next patch caused the release date to fluctuate significantly, leading to longer wait times for players.

Moving forward, Rogers emphasized the importance of delivering updates in a timely manner. He said, Players really do want to see forward progress, and they don’t want to be waiting six to nine months before they see a big update. To meet these expectations, the team plans to release additional Ascendancies in each patch, ensuring that players receive new content regularly. Rogers also expressed his eagerness to introduce more classes even after the game's Early Access phase concludes.

Dawn of the Hunt: Changes to the Endgame

The upcoming patch, *Dawn of the Hunt*, will bring significant changes to the endgame experience. Alongside the Huntress, players can expect over 100 new skills, support gems, and unique gear tailored for midgame and endgame progression. However, the most notable change is the increased difficulty of bosses. Rogers highlighted that the goal is to extend the time it takes for players to reach a level where they can easily overpower the endgame content.

He admitted that some mechanics were being trivialized too early in the game, stating, There are certainly some things that are going to have to be nerfed because they’re completely trivializing certain mechanics. Rogers aims to create a more challenging experience, especially with the Pinnacle Bosses. He shared his disappointment at how quickly players defeated these bosses in the past, saying, The first time you fight a Pinnacle Boss, it’s going to be a hard fight and crazy. But as you fight the boss more times and you get more items and you get to optimize your build and stuff, you can get to the point where you kill the boss in fourteen seconds. It’s just that it’s not your first experience.

Content with the Ruthless Difficulty

The difficulty of *Path of Exile 2*'s campaign has sparked discussions among players. Some felt it was too easy, while others found it too challenging. Rogers expressed satisfaction with the campaign's difficulty and believes that player opinions will evolve as they become more familiar with the game. He noted, I don’t think we’re gonna get nearly as many complaints about it this time, and that’s because once you know how to play, you’re going to find the experience a lot easier.

He further explained that many complaints stemmed from players comparing their experiences with the previous game, stating, People are often surprised. A lot of the times what happens is that the second time people play through the game, they will talk about how they (GGG) must have changed the balance, but the actual reality is that they just got better at the game. Rogers remains optimistic that as players improve, they will appreciate the game's challenging yet rewarding nature.
