Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following recent speculation, Hollow Knight fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief—Silksong is real, and it's still in active development. This confirmation comes directly from Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin. His recent response on X (formerly Twitter) addressed a fan’s hopeful inquiry about the game's status, putting to rest mounting concerns.
The conversation was sparked by an unusual event: Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen updated his X profile picture to an image of a cake—an act that immediately caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans. Many interpreted this as a cryptic hint toward a potential Silksong ARG or even a surprise announcement tied to the Nintendo Switch 2. In response to growing speculation, YouTuber fireb0rn reached out to Griffin for clarity. Unfortunately—or perhaps fortunately—it turned out the cake was just a cake. Pellen’s change held no deeper meaning, and fireb0rn later tweeted, "Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie."
But despite the false alarm, Griffin reignited hope by stating clearly: “Yes, the game is real, progressing and will release.” This marks the first official update on Silksong in over a year and a half.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long Journey
Originally unveiled in February 2019 with an intended 2023 release window, Silksong was officially delayed in May 2023. Team Cherry explained that the game had grown significantly in scope and complexity, requiring additional time to ensure quality. Since then, nearly two years have passed without much news—until now.
When released, Silksong will transport players to a new kingdom within the Hallownest universe. It promises nearly 150 brand-new enemies, a fresh gameplay mode called Silk Soul, and an expanded world built upon the legacy of its predecessor.
Despite the long wait, reactions to the update were mixed. While many fans expressed appreciation for the reassurance and encouraged the team to take their time, others voiced frustration over the lack of tangible progress or a concrete release date. For some, six years is a long time to wait for a sequel so highly anticipated.
What We Know So Far
Set in the same hauntingly beautiful world as Hollow Knight, Silksong follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey through unfamiliar lands. Her mission? To reach the peak of a mysterious kingdom in a deadly pilgrimage filled with challenges, secrets, and emotional depth.
The game is confirmed for the following platforms:
- PC (Windows)
- Nintendo Switch
- PlayStation 5 & 4
- Xbox Series X|S & Xbox One
As of now, there is no official release date or window. However, with this latest message from Team Cherry, fans can feel reassured that the game remains a top priority—and one day, it will finally arrive.
Stay tuned for future updates, announcements, and more from the ever-mysterious world of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
