To Give or Not to Give: The Splinter of Eothas Dilemma in Avowed

Authore: MatthewUpdate:May 02,2025

In *Avowed*, one of the earliest and most impactful decisions you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This choice leads to various outcomes, ranging from unfavorable to somewhat positive. This guide will walk you through the consequences of each decision regarding the Splinter of Eothas in *Avowed*.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

When you refuse to hand over the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis, the game sets the stage for a confrontation. Sargamis doesn't take kindly to your refusal and engages you in combat as an optional boss. He's a formidable opponent early in the game, with a significant health bar and the ability to summon two spirit creatures to assist him. These spirits primarily target Kai, allowing you some breathing room to focus on Sargamis. Be wary of his thrusting sword attacks, which cover a lot of ground quickly. However, Sargamis is susceptible to ice spells, which can be crucial in slowing him down.

Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique weapon that not only restores 3% of your health upon defeating an enemy but also adds a 10% bonus to fire damage on your attacks.

What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Choosing to give the Splinter to Sargamis opens up several paths. You can still change your mind, which will prompt Sargamis to attack you. If you proceed, you have two main options:

First, you can persuade Sargamis to enter the statue himself, resulting in his death and you acquiring the Last Light of Day mace. The second option is to offer yourself to the statue. If you stand in the designated circle and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you'll die, but you'll also earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading the game will take you back to the moment before entering the circle. If you step out of the circle after being instructed to stay still, Sargamis will attack you in anger.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

The optimal way to resolve the situation with the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of at least 4. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before discussing it with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then speak to him after its failure. Persuade him that his plan will not succeed, and he'll abandon his idea.

To start this path, consider selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background, although other backgrounds might offer similar choices. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is no longer present, but avoid the intellect option related to live soul transfer. Once Sargamis leaves, you can choose whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters to conclude this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.
