According to a report by Insider Gaming, the extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, originally slated to take place in Alaska and known under the codename Project Maverick, has undergone a complete reboot. Initially designed as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, the project faced significant changes following an internal review. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to redirect most resources towards Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The multiplayer component's fate was sealed when the technical team was reassigned to other projects.
The responsibility for the rebooted project has been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support capabilities. Almost the entire original development team has been reassigned to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

Insider Tom Henderson reported in mid-December 2024 that Far Cry 7 is set to plunge players into a world filled with tension and desperation, where time becomes the main adversary. The narrative will center around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a sinister conspiracy cult that performs terrifying experiments involving hallucinogens on animals and children. Players must race against time to rescue their loved ones within a 72 in-game hour window, which translates to 24 real-time hours, making time management a pivotal gameplay mechanic that adds a layer of intensity and urgency.
A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This element is designed to intensify the sense of urgency and compel players to make swift, strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to offer a gripping experience where every second is crucial, and every choice can lead to significant outcomes.
