Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse array of characters, each with unique playstyles, to combat the formidable Abyss King. This guide will help you understand how to unlock these Breakers and explore their distinct abilities.
Unlocking new characters in Hyper Light Breaker is straightforward, but the game doesn't provide clear instructions on how to do so. Here's a detailed guide on unlocking characters and an overview of the available Breakers in the early access version of the game. Note that this guide will be updated as more characters become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by defeating Crowns (bosses). Before you can challenge these bosses, you must first collect Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can find Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a boss, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter, and choose the Breaker you wish to unlock. Use your Abyss Stones to unlock the character, making them playable. While there are nine characters in total, only two are currently unlockable in the early access version. The method to unlock the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker starts with a SyCom, which defines their base stats and core perk, shaping their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles:
Vermillion
Vermillion is the starting character, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat abilities. His Rail shots have a chance to crit, and a critical hit guarantees the next shot will crit as well.
For players who enjoy melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers better defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis begins with the Lightweaver SyCom, focusing on Rail combat by increasing damage after picking up a Battery. Her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which boosts her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis is highly effective with either SyCom, but the Warrior option makes her exceptionally powerful over time, potentially outshining other Breakers in terms of raw stats.
Goro
Goro is tailored for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up his Blade skill charging while shooting. The unlockable Sniper SyCom directly increases his critical hit rate.
Goro fits the ranged glass cannon archetype, offering higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis but lacking defensive options. Mastering Goro can be challenging, but his high damage output makes him a formidable fighter when played correctly.
