BioWare delivers both good and bad news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
Veilguard: DRM-Free, No Preload for PC
BioWare's Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X) that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not utilize Denuvo DRM on PC. This decision, driven by trust in the player base, is a welcome relief for many who associate DRM with performance issues. The absence of Denuvo has been met with positive player feedback.
However, this benefit comes at a cost: no preload for PC players. With Veilguard requiring at least 100GB of storage, this news is a setback for some. Console players, however, can preload. Xbox early access players can install now; PlayStation early access begins October 29th. Gamble also confirmed that Veilguard will not require always-online play.
System requirements were also released alongside the DRM announcement. High-end PCs can leverage ray tracing and uncapped frame rates. Minimum specs prioritize accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) offer fidelity and performance modes targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. To fully utilize ray tracing on PC, players will need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, 16GB RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
