Gamers have taken notice of The Blood of Dawnwalker, drawing comparisons to The Witcher 4 due to the striking similarities in ambiance and style, which can be attributed to the project being crafted by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) staff members. Following the release of the first trailer, fans have been buzzing with excitement and speculation about which game will ultimately be more successful. However, both the developers behind these projects and their former colleagues believe that such comparisons are unwarranted.
An X user expressed this sentiment clearly, stating, "Dawnwalker looks amazing, just like The Witcher 4. Both works can exist together. One game doesn't mean the other is dead. It's not a competition. Let's show respect." This view was echoed by Patrick K. Mills, a key contributor to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, who emphasized the absence of rivalry between the teams. He stated, "Anyone who tries to compare these games is doing the devil's work. The teams have a long history together, we hang out together, we play games together, our group chats are full of praise for each team. There's nothing but love here. The culture war will remain a culture war, but these games share a common origin and common values."
Adding to the conversation, Philippe Weber, the narrative director for The Witcher 4, pointed out that the trailers for both games share similar visual elements. He shared a light-hearted anecdote, saying, "Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz and I were joking today about how the eyes in the dark in our two trailers were used as references to the TV series Midnight Mass to sell the idea early on. Many of the creators of the two games are friends, and we love seeing our friends succeed!"
Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, has set an ambitious goal to create a new series of games that can stand toe-to-toe with established franchises. Based on the first trailer, The Blood of Dawnwalker shows promise to become an equally impressive project as those from CDPR.
