Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, as it edges closer to its release date. In this latest update, the studio took a nostalgic look back at their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim over a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and often despairing ambiance, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and humor-infused narrative, focusing on the trials and tribulations of various alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic connection between the two games.
Although the settings and atmospheres of the games differ significantly, both are rooted in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty reality of surviving a war-torn city, managing resources and facing daily struggles to keep their group alive. On the other hand, The Alters challenges players to survive against a ticking clock, constantly relocating their mobile base to evade a relentless sun that reduces everything to dust.
Both titles compel players to step out of their comfort zones and explore dangerous territories in pursuit of vital resources. The primary distinction is in the protagonists: This War of Mine focuses on a group of everyday civilians, whereas The Alters features a team made up of different iterations of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is scheduled to launch in 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms. Excitingly, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, ensuring a wide audience can dive into this unique survival experience.
