The iconic rivalry between Marvel and DC is momentarily set aside as the comic giants collaborate on their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. This historic team-up appropriately features Batman and Deadpool leading the charge.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are joining forces for two special one-shot comics starring the Dark Knight and the Merc With a Mouth. Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1 by writer Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and artist Greg Capullo (Batman), while DC counters with Batman/Deadpool #1 from legendary writer Grant Morrison (Batman) and artist Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest).
This marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (excluding Fortnite's Omniverse collaborations). The publishers last partnered in 2003's JLA/Avengers, continuing a tradition that began with 1976's groundbreaking Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
"These crossovers happen about once per generation of readers," DC's Publisher Jim Lee told EW. "The timing needs to feel special, with the right creative justification for both companies to coordinate this complex collaboration."
Regarding their choice of characters, Marvel President Dan Buckley explained: "Deadpool with Batman simply felt like the perfect odd couple - offering humor, action, and that signature Deadpool violence while showcasing comics at their most entertaining."
Marvel and DC's Historic Crossover Timeline
Mark your calendars: Deadpool/Batman #1 arrives September 17, 2025, followed by Batman/Deadpool #1 in November. The publishers have already confirmed plans for additional crossover one-shots in 2026, though details remain tightly guarded.
