Borderlands Movie's Poor Reviews Aren't Its Only ProblemsEli Roth's Borderlands adaptation has had a disastrous premiere. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows a dismal 6% rating from 49 critics. Harsh words from prominent reviewers like Donald Clarke (Irish Times) and Amy Nicholson (New York Times) paint a picture of a film that fails to live up to expectations. Early social media reactions echoed these sentiments, describing the movie as "lifeless," "terrible," and "uninspired."

While critics panned the film, a segment of Borderlands fans and general audiences seem to have found enjoyment in its over-the-top action and humor. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a slightly more positive 49%. One viewer admitted to initially having low expectations due to the cast but ultimately enjoying the film. Another praised the action and humor, while acknowledging that some lore changes might confuse fans.

The negative reviews aren't the only challenge facing the Borderlands movie. A recent controversy erupted when freelance rigger Robbie Reid, who worked on the Claptrap character, revealed on Twitter (X) that neither he nor the character's modeler received screen credit. Reid expressed disappointment, particularly as he'd been credited on every previous film. He speculated that the omission might be due to him and the artist leaving their studio in 2021, acknowledging that this is a common, unfortunate industry issue. He concluded by expressing his hope that the situation might spur positive change within the industry regarding artist crediting.
