Authore: AriaUpdate:May 01,2025

The beloved Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is gearing up to unveil its first major video game, with CEO Travis Willingham hinting that an announcement could be just around the corner. In an engaging interview with Business Insider, Willingham shared exciting insights into the project, although the game's title and its specific connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps. He assured fans that the development team is diligently working to bring this vision to life.

Willingham elaborated on the interactive nature of the upcoming game, stating, "They'll actually be getting their hand on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria." This suggests a deeply immersive experience where players can shape the narrative.

Since its inception, the D&D show has blossomed into a vast universe, with the Amazon Prime Video spinoff, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina, becoming a fan favorite.

The forthcoming video game will complement Critical Role's existing projects, though it may not directly tie into them. In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham revealed that the team was in "active pursuit" of creating a Critical Role video game spinoff, noting they were "starting to come to the end of a long road that we’ve been undertaking for the last couple of years." Whether the game will follow one of the group's campaigns or introduce an original story within the world of Exandria remains to be seen.

With the year now well underway, the anticipation for an announcement has heightened, as Willingham indicated to Rolling Stone that the team has been testing the waters with various collaborations. "Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels," he explained. "You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem."

While no release date for the Critical Role video game has been set, fans can stay updated and explore the first details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 in the meantime.
