Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Game Redemptions

Authore: ConnorUpdate:May 07,2025

Days Gone Remastered made a significant impact at Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, but the announcement of a $10 upgrade has stirred discontent among some PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Sony has clarified that the $10 upgrade to the remastered version on PlayStation 5 is exclusively available to those who own the PlayStation 4 disc or a digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained the game through the PS Plus subscription service, including those who redeemed it from the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, are not eligible for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they must pay the full price of $49.99 to access the PS5 remastered version.

This decision has sparked a wave of frustration among PS Plus subscribers, many of whom have taken to online platforms to voice their dissatisfaction. A notable thread on the PlayStation Plus subreddit is filled with comments from subscribers who express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade fee but are now opting to forego the game entirely due to the full price requirement.

For instance, user squarejellyfish_ pointed out that Sony could have earned a substantial amount if PS Plus players were allowed to upgrade, noting that even casual interest in trying the game for a short period would have driven sales. Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated they would have paid the $10 but are unwilling to purchase the game at full price, preferring to stick with their existing version. Dredizzle99 echoed these sentiments, calling the decision "pretty stupid" and suggesting that many PS Plus owners feel the same way, potentially leading to lost sales for Sony.

Jackanyon95 criticized the move as unnecessarily restrictive, arguing that since the game was previously offered for free, allowing an upgrade would have generated additional revenue without alienating the player base. They also questioned the necessity of a remaster for the game.

Despite the backlash, some PS Plus subscribers are not surprised by Sony's approach, acknowledging that the company likely made this decision after careful financial analysis. However, Sony is facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who are labeling the company as "stingy" and had hoped for a more generous policy.
