Microsoft has inadvertently revealed a potential new feature for the Xbox UI, showcasing an update that could allow players to view all their installed PC games from various platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store. This glimpse into the future was accidentally shared in a blog post titled "Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox," where an image displayed devices with a "Steam" tab. Although the image was quickly removed from the post, it sparked curiosity and speculation about Microsoft's plans.

The inclusion of Steam in an Xbox UI mockup is significant, as it suggests a deeper integration between Microsoft's gaming ecosystem and other PC gaming platforms. According to sources from The Verge, Microsoft is in the early stages of developing this feature, which would enable users to see all their PC games and the storefronts from which they were purchased. However, there's no immediate timeline for when this update might roll out, if at all.

This development aligns with Microsoft's ongoing strategy to merge the Xbox and PC gaming experiences. Over the past decade, the company has increasingly brought its titles to PC and other platforms, including games like Pentiment and Grounded on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. There are also rumors that the Master Chief Collection might eventually make its way to PlayStation.

Microsoft's efforts to blur the lines between Xbox and PC gaming are evident in initiatives like the "This is an Xbox" campaign, which highlights the various devices on which players can enjoy Xbox games. In an interview with Polygon, Xbox head Phil Spencer hinted at a future where PC stores like Itch.io and the Epic Games Store could be integrated into Xbox hardware.

Looking further ahead, reports suggest that Microsoft's next-generation Xbox, expected in 2027, will be more akin to a PC than any previous Xbox console. This evolution underscores Microsoft's commitment to creating a seamless gaming experience across different platforms.
