Monster Hunter Wilds Player Base Shrinks Toward MH World Numbers
Monster Hunter Wilds' player count continues its downward trend, nearing MH World's current levels. Discover the reasons behind MH Wilds' declining numbers and details about its first collaboration event.
Steep Decline in Active Players
From over 1 million players at launch to just 40,000 concurrent users, Monster Hunter Wilds has experienced a significant drop in its player base since release.
Initially hailed as Capcom's fastest-selling game of the year, MH Wilds has seen its concurrent player numbers halve since May. Recent SteamDB data shows Wilds' 24-hour peak at 41,101 players - only slightly ahead of the older MH World's 26,479 players.
Notably, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam, significantly outperforming Wilds' current standing. Many players cite the lack of endgame content in Wilds as the primary reason for this decline, even after Title Update 1. Hopes now rest on this summer's second major update to revive interest with new monsters and events.
Street Fighter Collaboration Teased
The potential collaboration with Street Fighter could help re-engage the player base. On May 19, the official Monster Hunter Twitter account shared an image featuring a paw mark styled after Street Fighter 6's urban aesthetic.
While unconfirmed, such a crossover would follow series tradition - MH World previously featured Street Fighter content including Ryu/Sakura armor and special attack animations. This would be Wilds' first major collaboration event.
The Monster Hunter franchise has a history of successful crossovers, including partnerships with Devil May Cry, Sonic, Animal Crossing, and Assassin's Creed in previous installments. Fans eagerly await details on how this potential Street Fighter collaboration might be implemented.
Despite the current player count decline, anticipation remains high for future content updates that could revitalize the game's popularity. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
