The debut trailer for *Predator: Badlands* has ignited a flurry of curiosity among fans, especially regarding the unique design of the new Predator. In an engaging interview with Bloody Disgusting, director Dan Trachtenberg unveiled intriguing details about this latest installment in the iconic sci-fi franchise, shedding light on his innovative approach to the renowned alien hunter.

The new Predator, named Dek and portrayed by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, breaks from tradition by taking on a protagonist role. Described as an underdog Yautja "runt," Dek's character diverges from the typical portrayal of Yautja as antagonists in previous Predator films. His hunting ground is a formidable "Death Planet" called Kalisk, where he battles to earn his father's approval and acceptance within his clan.

Dek's appearance has sparked conversation due to its more human-like features compared to previous Predators. His smaller stature aligns perfectly with his role as a "runt" protagonist, adding a fresh layer to the narrative.

*Predator: Badlands* centers on Dek's journey, but he is not alone on Kalisk. He collaborates with a character played by Elle Fanning, whose appearance, complete with the Weyland Yutani logo on her eyes, suggests a possible connection to the *Alien* franchise. This intriguing detail has fans speculating about her potential role as a synth.

Trachtenberg drew inspiration from the 2005 PlayStation classic *Shadow of the Colossus* for the dynamic between Dek and Fanning's character. He highlighted the emotional depth in the game's protagonist-horse relationship as a model for the connection between Dek and his counterpart. Trachtenberg praised Fanning's character for her contrasting traits—while Dek is reserved, she is expressive, and her unique capabilities promise an exciting on-screen presence.

Despite the tantalizing hints, Trachtenberg remained coy about the specifics of Fanning's character and any potential *Alien* connections, teasing a "unique hook" that enhances the pairing between her and Dek.

*Predator: Badlands* is set to hit the screens on November 7, 2025. Fans can look forward to Trachtenberg's animated anthology, *Predator: Killer of Killers*, which will premiere in June, offering a taste of the new direction the franchise is taking.
