Boss Battles Echoing Resident Evil 1 & 2

Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) will draw inspiration from the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 for its boss encounters. During Tokyo Game Show 2025, Game Director Koshi Nakanishi elaborated on these confrontations in an interview with Automaton.
He confirmed the return of boss battles with greater complexity, demanding strategic thinking to overcome. Unlike action-heavy titles where enemies are dispatched spectacularly, RE9 adopts a deliberate pace that challenges players to outsmart their foes.
Nakanishi explained, "Boss battles are indeed included. However, the approach is less about flashy combat seen in shooters and more aligned with the classic Resident Evil titles. Players will navigate confined spaces, expanding their exploration while using intellect to surmount challenges."

This philosophy is embodied by protagonist Grace Ashcroft. Her relatable nature allows horror newcomers to connect with her journey, as she utilizes every available resource to survive unprecedented terrifying events.
Throughout the game, both Grace and players will confront and conquer their fears, creating a compelling growth arc. Nakanishi added, "Initially frightened, Grace reaches a breaking point that transforms her into a fighter. Experiencing this evolution alongside the protagonist forms a core aspect of the game's appeal."
The Hooded Killer: An Original Antagonist

Since RE9's initial teaser, numerous theories have circulated about various game elements, including the identity of the frequently featured "Hooded Killer."
Director Koshi Nakanishi and Producer Masato Kumazawa addressed this mystery in a September 30 discussion with The Gamer, confirming the hooded figure as a primary antagonist.
Kumazawa hinted at connections to the Umbrella Corporation, whose logo appears in trailers, but both developers dismissed speculation about the character being a series veteran.

The developers stated, "Many assume the hooded figure must be a familiar face, with theories suggesting specific returning characters. However, we don't want to rely solely on surprise comebacks." They emphasized the character was created specifically for RE9's narrative.
With RE9's early next-year launch approaching, Capcom is gradually revealing more about the antagonist's role. Additional details will emerge in coming months as the release date nears.
