As the highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2 draws closer, the gaming world buzzes with speculation surrounding its pricing, tariffs, and overall market impact. Amidst this excitement, one prominent third-party publisher, Take-Two Interactive, has expressed strong confidence in the new console. During a recent Q&A session with investors, CEO Strauss Zelnick conveyed his "great optimism" regarding Nintendo's latest platform, highlighting a notable shift in Nintendo's approach towards third-party developers compared to previous generations.
Zelnick noted that Take-Two is set to release four titles exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, marking a significant increase in the number of launches compared to any previous Nintendo platform debut. He remarked, "We're launching four titles with Nintendo Switch 2, and that's I think a bigger array of releases than we've ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform." Acknowledging the historical challenges faced by third-party publishers in the Nintendo ecosystem, Zelnick emphasized that Nintendo has made strides in addressing these issues.
Take-Two's lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2 includes notable franchises such as Civilization 7 (launching June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (with unspecified games and dates), and Borderlands 4 (set for September 12). While these titles are continuations of existing partnerships, Zelnick hinted at potential opportunities for additional releases from Take-Two's extensive catalog in the future. Although major titles like GTA 6 are unlikely, classics such as GTA V could potentially find their way to the platform.
In a separate conversation prior to the investor call, Zelnick discussed the company's quarterly performance and addressed the recent delay of GTA 6 to next year. His insights underscored the strategic importance of aligning with consumer preferences while carefully selecting which titles to bring to each platform.
