In a recent conversation with Automation, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the title is performing "very well across both PS5 and PC platforms." While specific sales numbers weren't shared, his statement aims to address speculation about the game's market reception.

Beyond confirming robust sales, Hamaguchi revealed that development on the trilogy's conclusion is advancing steadily. He noted that "production is progressing extremely well," with substantial portions already playable. The director emphasized that the "creative vision and structural framework are firmly established," allowing the team to concentrate on polishing the player experience.

Hamaguchi concluded by recommending new players begin with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox Series X|S before continuing to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth while awaiting the trilogy's finale.

Multi-Platform Launch Considered for FF7 Trilogy Conclusion

Upon release, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth received critical acclaim, with Game8 granting it a 96/100 rating and declaring it "the ultimate Final Fantasy experience." The title also garnered multiple award nominations and wins. However, Square Enix's May 2024 financial report saw president Takashi Kiryu acknowledge that PS5 sales had "not met projected targets." Famitsu reported 260,000 copies sold in Japan during its first week, making it the country's top new release, though this figure trailed behind Final Fantasy VII Remake's PS4 launch week sales of 702,853 units.

In December 2024, producer Yoshinori Kitase informed IGN Brasil that while Square Enix was pleased with Rebirth's sales, he believed the company's future titles couldn't maintain single-platform exclusivity. Combined with Hamaguchi's confirmation of improving sales, this suggests the trilogy's finale might target simultaneous multi-platform release to optimize commercial success and audience accessibility.

Though the third installment's official title and release window remain unannounced, Hamaguchi confirmed the project remains on track. Considering the approximate four-year interval between Remake and Rebirth, his update hints that the concluding chapter might arrive earlier than anticipated.
