Killzone Composer: Fans Seeking More Casual, Quicker Games

Authore: ChristianUpdate:Apr 08,2025

The beloved Sony franchise, Killzone, has been quiet for quite some time, leaving fans yearning for its return. Recently, Killzone's composer, Joris de Man, added his voice to the growing chorus of those hoping to see the iconic series make a comeback. In an interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, de Man shared his thoughts on the franchise's potential revival.

"I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's [tricky] because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."

When it comes to envisioning Killzone's return, de Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more appealing to fans than a brand new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he said. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something. I don't know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick."

Known for their slower-paced, weightier gameplay compared to other shooters like Call of Duty, the Killzone series, particularly Killzone 2, faced criticism for its perceived input lag on the PlayStation 3. The games are renowned for their dark, gritty visuals and a tone that immerses players in a bleak, oppressive atmosphere.

Despite the fanbase's longing, a recent interview with the Washington Post suggested that Sony's Guerrilla Games has shifted its focus to the Horizon series, seemingly moving on from Killzone. Yet, with over a decade since the last entry, Killzone Shadow Fall, the idea of reviving Killzone or another PlayStation shooter franchise remains an enticing prospect for dedicated fans. While the future remains uncertain, supporters can take comfort in knowing they have at least one more ally in Joris de Man.
