Romero Games, le studio fondé par le co-créateur de Doom John Romero et Brenda Romero, a exprimé une profonde déception après avoir appris que le financement de leur prochain projet était brusquement retiré – apparemment en raison des récentes mesures de réduction des coûts de Microsoft – mettant en péril à la fois le jeu et son équipe de développement.

Un ancien employé de Romero Games a révélé via les réseaux sociaux que son départ était lié aux « récents licenciements chez Xbox ». IGN a contacté Microsoft pour obtenir des clarifications.
