Larian's CEO: Single-Player Games Thrive If Quality Is High

Authore: MatthewUpdate:May 16,2025

The age-old debate about the vitality of big single-player games has resurfaced, and this time, Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios and the mastermind behind the blockbuster hit Baldur's Gate 3, has offered his perspective with conviction. In a post on X/Twitter, Vincke responded to the recurring claim that single-player games are "dead" by asserting, "Use your imagination. They're not. They just have to be good."

Vincke's authority on the subject is undeniable. Larian Studios has built a formidable reputation through a series of critically acclaimed CRPGs, including Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2, before taking on and triumphantly delivering Baldur's Gate 3.

Known for his insightful commentary, Vincke has previously captured attention with his candid remarks at events like The Game Awards. His emphasis on the passion of development, respect for both developers and players, and dedication to the quality of games underscores his latest stance on the enduring relevance of single-player experiences.

The year 2025 has already witnessed the success of another major single-player game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 by Warhorse Studios. With many months still ahead, there's ample opportunity for other single-player titles to shine.

Following the success of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has chosen to step away from the franchise and Dungeons & Dragons to focus on developing a new IP. Meanwhile, at this year's Game Developers Conference, Dan Ayoub, SVP of digital games at Hasbro, hinted that fans might soon learn more about the future of the Baldur's Gate series.
