PlayStation's Jade Raymond Leaves Fairgames Amid Sony's Live Service Challenges

Jade Raymond, the founder of Haven Studios—the Sony-owned developer behind the upcoming online multiplayer shooter, Fairgames—has departed the company following an underwhelming external test of the game. As reported by Bloomberg, Raymond’s exit occurred shortly after the trial, which reportedly did not meet expectations. Originally slated for release in fall 2025, Fairgames has now been pushed back to spring 2026.

Sony remains committed to Haven and its project, appointing new co-studio heads Marie-Eve Danis and Pierre-François Sapinski to steer the studio forward.

This development adds further complexity to PlayStation’s live service ambitions, which have faced multiple setbacks. While Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 achieved significant success, selling 12 million copies within 12 weeks, other live service titles such as Concord faced disastrous launches and were eventually canceled. Sony also shelved projects like Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us multiplayer game and reportedly canceled two undisclosed live service games—one being a God of War title at Bluepoint Games and another at Bend Studio, known for Days Gone.

In February 2022, Sony announced plans to release over 10 live service games by March 2026. However, by 2023, President Hiroki Totoki revised this plan, stating that only six of these games would launch by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026, with the timeline for the remaining six yet to be determined. Totoki emphasized that quality would remain the top priority over specific titles.

Despite these challenges, Bungie continues to lead the charge with Destiny 2 and the upcoming Marathon. Sony recently unveiled a new studio, teamLFG, focused on live service incubation, while Guerrilla Games is also developing a Horizon multiplayer title.
